The European Directive on the
Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD) requires all buildings to
have and Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) on sale, rent or
construction, Display Energy Certificates (DEC) to be displayed by
certain public buildings and inspections and advisory reports on
certain air conditioning systems by 2009.
The legislation for the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive
has commenced with the implementation of Energy Performance
Certificates for domestic dwellings and the next phase covers
commercial properties and public buildings.
From 6th April 2008 all non-domestic properties with a floor area
greater than 10,000 m2 which are constructed, marketed for sale or
rent must have an Energy Performance Certificate. From 1st July 2008
this increases to all non-domestic properties with a floor area over
2,500m2, with the remainder coming into force from 1st October 2008.
In order to be able to produce Energy Performance Certificates for
the commercial sector any existing Domestic Energy Assessor can
enhance their qualification through training and subsequent
certification with us. With our background of 13 years experience
within commercial mechanical & electrical training and more recently
domestic energy assessment, we are well placed for this new market.
Contact us today to find out more about this new training and how we
can help you branch into the commercial sector.
In addition, from 1 October 2008 all public buildings larger than
1,000m2 will need a Display Certificate. Again, we are providing
training and certification for this requirement.
Air conditioning systems must be inspected under this legislation.
Any new system first put into service on or after 1st January 2008
must be inspected within 5 years of it first being put into service.
Existing systems with an effective rated output of more than 250kw
must have an inspection by 4th January 2009 and more than 12kw by
4th January 2011.
